World ocean day celebrated on 8th June every year. This day is celebrated since 1992. The world commission on Environment and Development and The Brundtland Commission Provided the inspiration for global oceans day.
On the first world ocean day in 1992, the objective was to move the ocean from sidelines to the center of the intergovernmental and NGO discussion policy to strengthen the voice of ocean and coastal constituencies worldwide.
The ocean project working in partnership with a leading organization from all sectors which include the world ocean network in association with Zoos and Aquariums and 2000 organizations has been promoting world ocean day since 2002.World ocean day officially recognized by the united nation in late 2008.
World ocean day events are celebrated on 8 June the closest weekend, the week, the month of June. The day is marked in a variety of ways including new campaigns and initiatives, outdoor explorations, art contests, sustainable seafood events, aquatic and beach cleanups.
The main Purpose of the World ocean day is an annual observation to honor, conserve and help protect the world’s oceans. The ocean provides us with many resources and services including oxygen, climate regulation, food sources, medicine, and more. World Oceans Day also provides an opportunity to take personal and community action to conserve the ocean and its resources.
World Ocean Day 2018 theme is to prevent plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean. The ocean project continues to expand the youth focus of world ocean Day by further expanding the Youth Advisory Council with the addition of 10 new members.
