World Environment Day is annually celebrated on the 5th of June. The first time this day Was celebrated In 1974. World Environment Day is celebrated to raise awareness about the pollution made by us. This Day brings awareness about pollution including marine pollution, global warming, human overpopulation. On this day different activities and events are organized across the globe. Different countries are participating in this event to raise awareness about the Environment.
This year Due to COVID-19 all events are taking place online. So take care of it and celebrate Environment 2020 online.

History Of World Environment Day:-

In the year 1972, World Environment Day Was established by the UN General Assembly. On the first day of The human environment Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, resulting from discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment. After two years in 1974, the first World Environment Day was held.
The theme of this year was  “Only One Earth”. The celebration of the World Environment Day has been held annually since 1974. In 1987 the idea for rotating the center of these activities by selecting different host countries began.

How To Celebrate World Environment Day?

There are several ways to celebrate this day. United Nations Environment Programme Organized different Events and activities on this day. You can join these events and activities by their official website
You can host your own world environment day event. Check out the activities that are already planned in your area for a celebration of this day. Raise funds and charity for different activities.

Make a poster to raise awareness about environmental issues and also try to figure out the solution to those problems. Planting a tree in school, colleges, and roads. Plant a tree in a group and Take the rules to plant a tree every year.

Causes of Pollution:-

There are several causes of pollution. There are two types of pollution. One is indoor pollution and outdoor pollution. Indoor pollution means pollution occurs inside the home. outdoor pollution means pollution in the outside atmosphere. The quality of the air inside is very worst than the outside air quality.

Indoor Pollution:-

Cooking method and ignition of a stick, wood/coal causes indoor air pollution. Heating, cooking, smoking of tobacco increase indoor air pollution. A variety of reasons are there for an increase in air pollution including the construction of the home which reduces the ventilation, synthetic material used in a home, household products, use of chemical products, pesticides all are the causes of indoor pollution.

Outdoor Pollution:-

Outdoor pollution including air pollution, marine pollution, land pollution, industrial pollution. The main causes of outdoor pollution are the burning of fossil fuel, more use of the vehicle, industrial pollution including emission of chemical and different harmful emission of the gases from the industry. carbon dioxide is increasing in the air which causes a decrease in the volume of the ozone.

Practical Guides to Reduce Pollution:-

  • For long-distance Use, public transport for short-distance use a bicycle or walk.
  • Switch to electric vehicles and request electric taxis.
  • Turn off the car engine when not needed.
  • Reduce the consumption of meat and dairy which helps to cut methane emissions.
  • Compost organic food items and recycle them to non-organic trash.
  • Switch to the high-efficiency home heating systems.
  • Turn off the lights and electronics when not in use.
  • Choose non-toxic paints and furnishings at home.
  • use environmentally benign fuel sources.
  • Reduce the use of water and chemical input.
  • Adoption of less environmentally harmful pesticides.
  • Modifying a production process which produces less waste.
  • Using non-toxic chemicals like cleaners, degreasers and other maintenance chemicals.
  • Implementing water and energy conservation.
  • Reusing materials such as drums and pallets rather than disposing of them.
  • Using reusable water bottles.

Climate Activist Greta Thunberg:-

Greta Thunberg is a Swedish school girl and also a climate activist. She is 16 years old. At the age of 15, she starts protesting outside the Swedish parliament for the immediate need for climate change. She made a school strike for climate change. On the 15 March 2019, she calls for striking to support her 1.4 million students from 112 countries around the world join her call striking and protesting.
A similar event took place on the 24 May 2019 involving students from 133 countries. She is nominated for the noble price in May 2019. Greta Thunberg is featured on the cover of Time magazine.
