The aviation secretary R N Choubey said that the final rules will keep in mind the interests of both airlines and flyers passengers rights getting more weightage. From August month you will be able to cancel your domestic air ticket within 24 hours of booking without any cancellation charge for flights that are at least four days away from departure. It doesn’t matter if you book air ticket directly from airlines or through an agent or travel portal while claiming the refund.
On Tuesday afternoon the aviation ministry issued a draft passenger charter which among others has this passenger-friendly proposal. Aviation ministry gets comments from stakeholders on the charter taking these comments granted and will issue the final rules by July month. This rules will apply to all airlines and in turn on travels and agents in case of cancellation charges.
If an airline informs you 24 hours before departure of domestic flight and that it delayed by over four hours you could be entitled to a full refund. For missing connecting flight airlines offer compensation between RS 5,000 and RS 20,000. However both domestic and missing connecting flight on the same airline ticket.
There is no cancellation charge. Jayant Sinha minister of state aviation said that if the flight departure time is over four days there is no any cancellation charge but if domestic tickets for flights whose departure is within four days have to pay the cancellation charge which is RS 3000.
If domestic flight delays happen due to airline fault and reasons like weather problem then the passenger will be entitled to a certain thing. If an airline tells 24 hours before flight departure time that the flight is going to be delayed over four hours then a full refund will be considered and airlines may have to offer free hotel accommodation with airports transfers.
