Buddha Purnima is the birthday of Gautam Buddha who was the founder of Buddhism. According to the belief, Lord Buddha is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and appeared on this earth 2500 years ago to spread the message of non-violence and mercy towards all living beings. Birthday of Buddha is celebrated according to the position of the moon. This year Buddha Purnima is celebrated on 18th May.
Last year Budhha Purnima Was celebrated on 30th April. Buddha Purnima is also known as Buddha Jayanti celebrates the birth of Lord Buddha across the globe. Traditionally it is a holiday in the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. According to many beliefs Buddha was born in Lumbini which is presently known as Nepal around 563 BCE.
Childhood name of Buddha was Siddhartha Gautam was born in royal lineage family. At the time of birth, an astrologer predicted that he will be set to become king either he would leave the material things and denounce everything.
On other side prince’s father, Suddhoona wanted his son to powerful and greatest of kings, therefore, he didn’t let him go out of the palace. However, a one-day young prince at the age of 29 went out of the palace and saw how people suffer and how difficult it is for an ordinary man to survive.
This time prince got to understand the suffering of common man, an old man, a sick person, a dead body and lastly show the ascetic holy man who was content in life.
All these experience were Wound into his mind and he leaves his comfortable royal life behind and moves ahead to embrace divinity by walking on the spiritual path which leads to enlightenment.
Chant mantra of Buddha’s is “Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō” which is chanted within all forms of Nichiren Buddhism as well as Tendai Buddhism. This chant mantra helps in attaining mental peace and all people believe that it cures them of all problems.
