After a long time discussion finally state Government is taking concrete steps toward international airport project this project will be named as the New Ahmedabad Airport. The state government reached at final stages of signing a joint venture agreement with the Airports Authority of India to develop the new airport at an area which is 80 km away from Ahmedabad. The agreement will be signed in June 2018 and work expected to staring form 2019 and the new airport expected operational by 2022.
As per assumption Sardar Patel International Airport expected to cross its maximum capacity of 18 million passengers so there is no option to further expanding the existing Airport, Development of the new airport at Dholera has become a strategic necessity. A new special purpose vehicle is expected to be formed shortly.
Director of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport Manoj Gangal said that another airport for Ahmedabad is required sooner or later this shows the rapid growth in passengers after Kolkata in terms of growth of international passengers Ahmedabad at the second position in the country.
The First phase coast of this project is estimated to be RS 1,600 Crore While the total cost of this project may reach above 2100 crore.
